The Arroyo regime, beleaguered by dissent from all directions, has reached the heights of desperation. It has shed all pretensions to decency and resorted to the brazen use of the known weapons of regimes desperately clinging to power. On one hand is the gun, with the force of which it has silenced many of its critics, mainly from the progressive bloc. On the other hand is money, used to buy the loyalty of its supposed political allies and prevent a falling-out that may come with the escalation of public pressure on the government. With these the Arroyo regime is now the perfect picture of a regime gone berserk in its desperation.
