The P20 salary increase within Metro Manila is not sufficient for an average Filipino family, Bong Labog, chairperson of the labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), said after the Regional Wage Board (RWB) announced the wage increase yesterday.

Labog said they are looking into the legal aspect of the decision since there are lawful provisions that allow salary increase to occur twice a year during times of crisis. Labog added that KMU will continue lobbying for a P125 across the board increase in workers’ salary.

“Pinakamataas kasi yung cost of living ng isang pamilya sa ARMM,” (ARMM has the highest cost of living for a family) says Labog. He explained that that the salary increase approved by the RWB is only effective within Metro Manila leaving workers from other regions with lower wages.

“Mumo lamang ang mapupunta sa manggagawa,” (Only the leftovers are left for the workers) said Labog when he compared the profit of big companies and the daily wage that the workers are asking. (Bulatlat.com)
