Activists in Lanao Push for ‘Real Solutions’ to the Crisis

ILIGAN CITY – About 100 members of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan)-Lanao chapter held a protest here, branding the Arroyo government’s response to the economic crisis as “bogus, pathetic and utterly hopeless.”

The group condemned the Arroyo government’s failure to control the rising prices of rice, petroleum and other basic commodities. In the said rally, their faces were painted with the words “OUST GLORIA.”

In a statement, Kristian Mark Urbano, Bayan-Lanao secretary general, said, “With the rising number of hungry and discontented people taking to the streets, Mrs. Arroyo and her minions should race against the people’s thinning patience by providing real solutions other than what their creative minds can concoct.”

Urbano asserted anew that the scrapping of anti-people laws such as the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law and the Oil Deregulation Law.

The group vowed to mount a rally on Mrs. Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28. (Bulatlat.com)
