Anti-Communist Palparan Challenged to Report Achievements in Congress

PRESS RELEASE
March 14, 2010

Self-proclaimed anti-communist mongerer Jovito Palparan should stop acting like a scorned woman blabbering unfounded accusations repeatedly against genuine partylist groups and focused his propaganda work on his achievements in Congress, if he has any.

Bayan Muna Northern Mindanao categorically challenges Palparan to report to the people what are his exact achievements as a true representative of the marginalized. Aside from his dubious and bloody record as military general in Mindoro and Samar, and to other areas where he was assigned, Palparan does not represent the unrepresented. Instead, he represents the ruling elite as its #1 protector and defender and security guard of selfish interests and unquenchable greed.

“What representation does he represent except his being tagged by no less the United Nations and other international human rights bodies as one of the key culprits in the hundreds of victims of extra judicial killings in the Philippines,” Bayan Muna Northern Mindanao regional spokesperson Richard Colao said.

What Palparan has done in Congress is simply act as mouthpiece of Arroyo’s Oplan Bantay Laya II by continually demonizing progressive organizations and even people’s organizations in rural areas and urban poor barangays. “This defeats his supposed work as congressman tasked to craft laws that mean to uplift the lives of the marginalized sectors in agriculture, indigenous peoples, women, workers, out-of-school youths, and other clearly un-represented members of the Filipino populace,” Colao said.

Until now, he has yet to make clear his name on the charges of murder, harassments and terror he has caused the people in Mindoro, Samar and other areas where blood trails are found wherever he is assigned, the Bayan Muna official said.

Further, contrary to his claims of being a Cagayanon and Misamisnon carrying the interest of these people, the general, who is tagged Berdugo after his stint in Mindoro where hundreds of activists and innocent civilians were murdered, has yet to defend the hundreds of families evicted at Camp Evangelista last year on the 4th Infantry Division’s (4ID) raison d’être to use the contested property
for military purposes.

“He cannot even defend his comrades in uniform especially as those affected are his kababayans whom he abashedly claims to serve and protect,” Colao said.
