GABRIELA National Alliance of Women and Gabriela Women’s Party would like to clarify that we are not supporting Quezon City mayoralty candidate Mike Defensor. We are issuing this statement to belie news that came out today in at least three tabloid newspapers – Remate, Unang Tiktik and Hataw- claiming that we are supporting Defensor.

No national officer of GABRIELA or Gabriela Women’s Party ever talked with Mr. Defensor or anyone from his camp. The news reports in the three aforementioned tabloid newspapers neither named their source except for one Ruby Barcelona, allegedly a resident of District 2 in Quezon City.

We admonish as completely irresponsible whoever issued such a statement in an attempt to use the name of our organizations to bolster Defensor’s candidacy.
