Relatives of overseas Filipino workers and members of the progressive group Migrante International defaced the logo of the Department of Foreign Affairs in a protest action on Mar. 16 as they commemorate the 20th year since the execution of Flor Contemplacion.
Contemplacion was a domestic worker in who was falsely accused, detained and sentenced to death in Singapore in 1995.
Protesters used red paint to point out how the government’s labor export policy has led to the dire conditions of Filipinos working abroad.
Today, March 17, they will march to Mendiola to demand President Aquino’s resignation.
