Madleen, a civilian ship sailing toward Gaza carrying humanitarian aid and international human rights defenders, is now less than 150 nautical miles from Gaza.
Hay Sha Wiya, press officer of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), which is leading the initiative, said that they are preparing for possible interception.
There are 11 activists and a journalist on board the Madleen. Among them is climate justice activist Greta Thunberg and member of European Parliament Rima Hassan.
The initiative is a protest to Israel’s total and illegal aid blockade of the Palestinian enclave. United Nations reported that over 3,000 trucks of aid are stuck outside Gaza. Daily food intake in Gaza has also dropped below ‘survival’ level in the report of Food and Agriculture Organization in their latest data simulation.
Youth Advocate for Climate Action Philippines (YACAP) said in an earlier statement that they stand in solidarity with the FFC and fellow climate activist Thunberg.
“Climate justice is social justice. It is a moral responsibility to stand with those who are most marginalized. Climate advocates stand in solidarity with Palestinians in their fight to reclaim their land and achieve liberation,” YACAP said, underscoring that the fight against climate crisis is not separate from the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
