MANILA — Unidentified gunmen fired several shots at three media offices in Bangued, Abra province, last night, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) reported Thursday.
At around 9 p.m. Wednesday night, two men in separate motorcycles fired at the steel gates of the St. Arnold Janssen Communication Center, which houses the Catholic-run newspaper Abra Today, and its radio affiliates DZPA and Spirit FM radio DWWM, according to journalist Artemio Dumlao.
The center was serving as a refuge to Abra Today senior reporter Marjorie Trinidad-Bandayrel https://www.bulatlat.com/main/2009/06/06/attack-on-abra-journalist-remains-unsolved/ , whose house was also attacked by gunmen a month ago. Bandayrel believes that the attack had something to do with her report criticizing the Abra Electric Cooperative (Abreco) for purchasing vehicles for officers of the power cooperative.
Abra police director Sr. Supt. Charlo Collado has already ordered an investigation, while Bangued town mayor Dominic Valera condemned the attack and vowed to personally run after the perpetrators. (Bulatlat.com)
