Making a Living Out of Granite Mining

On bright days like summer, Bogate and some of her children go to the mining site and work as carriers of the slabs to the roadside. They had to carry the chunks of granite on their back using a sack containing clothes or abaca fibers and tied in their foreheads to protect their nape.

“Going to the site is not easy. The trails are very steep, coarse and slippery. Carriers should know how to properly balance their steps to avoid falling,” she said.
