Drenched But in High Spirits, Filipinos Gather Against a Hated Regime

Yellow Ribbons

At Liwasang Bonifacio, vehicles participating in the caravan led by the Pagbabago People’s Movement for Change were lined up around 11 a.m. Each vehicle was tied with red, blue and yellow ribbons, the colors of the Philippines’ national flag.

Around noon time, the caravan left for Commonweath. Along Espana, commuters and passersby were reading the slogans and posters that were also tied on the vehicles. There were also people who looked through the window of the jeepneys they were riding just to take a short glimpse and know what the caravan was all about. No private or public vehicles dared to break the long chain of vehicles participating in the caravan, as if the road they are passing were made solely for them.

Along Commonwwealth Avenue, the caravan passed many progressive groups who were gearing for their march toward Ever-Gotesco Mall, where the People’s Sona would be held. Most of them were wearing red. Inside a van, the participants from the health sectors were not able to hide their amusement after passing the youth contingents under the Kabataan Partylist and Kabataan Kontra Cha Cha. Each were remembering how it was like to be part of the youth sector, just like what they had been a few years back.

As the caravan drew near, the big number of people gathering in the middle of the street was almost impossible to approximate. (With a report from Janess Ann J. Ellao / bulatlat.com)
