OFWs hold protests abroad vs pork barrel

MANILA – Overseas Filipino Workers abroad held their own protest actions calling for the abolition of the pork barrel system, in solidarity with the Million People’s March protest today, Aug. 26.

OFWs in Hong Kong already jumpstarted the protest with a picket at the Philippine Consulate last Aug. 22.

On Aug. 24 Filipinos in New York held a “public information session” followed by a picket protest led by NAFCON (National Alliance for Filipino Concerns) and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-USA.

On August 25, OFWs from the US, Canada, Hong Kong and United Arab Emirates also held simultaneous protest activities in their respective countries.

OFWs in Taiwan posted their “selfie protests” in social networking sites. In Thailand and Vietnam, OFWs launched a “black armband protest” against the pork barrel.
