Ka Bel, Party-list Rep and Labor Leader, Passes Away

Anakpawis Representative and veteran labor leader Crispin Beltran, 75, passed away 11:48 a.m. today due to brain injuries after falling from the roof of his house.

Beltran, former chairperson of Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) is survived by his wife Rosario and 11 children. He fell 14 ft. from the roof of his house in San Jose, del Monte, Bulacan around 6 a.m. and was brought to the North Caloocan Hospital. He was later transferred to FEU Hospital in Fairview, Quezon City. Beltran was declared brain dead and suffered cardiac arrests five times until he was never resuscitated again.

A staunch critic of the Arroyo regime, Beltran was detained for more than a year since the declaration of Proclamation 1017 in February 2006. He also fought the Marcos dictatorship. (Bulatlat.com)
