Even before Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo delivers her state of the nation address (SONA), people’s organizations under the banner of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan- New Patriotic Alliance) presented what they called the People’s SONA.

Speaking before the thousands of protesters, Dr. Carol Araullo, Bayan chairperson, said, “Naghuhugas-kamay si Arroyo sa pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin at serbisyo…bagamat totoo na nagaganap ang isang pandaigdigang krisis, ang krisis ng imperyalismo, hindi totoong wala siyang pananagutan at wala siyang magagawa.” (Arroyo clears herself of any responsibility from the rising prices of commodities and services…while it is true that there is world crisis, the crisis of imperialism, it is not true that Arroyo is not accountable and that she cannot do anything.)
