Everything is Wrong with the Concentration of Arroyos in the HOR

News Release
26 March 2010

“The statement of presidential spokesperson Ricardo Saludo that there is nothing wrong with the concentration of Arroyos in the House since other families do it as well is an indicator of the political quagmire into which the country has sunk,” Rep. Luz Ilagan of Gabriela Women’s Party said, adding that it is this drunken arrogance of those in power like the Arroyos and their allies who belong to political dynasties that has set the Philippines back to the days of feudalism and warlordism.

“We have a sly president, endlessly scheming to perpetuate her stay in power and who now wants the people to accept this twisted logic that if others do it, so can she and her family. Should she win a congressional seat, and should her relatives enter through the back door of the party list system, there would be five Arroyos in the Lower House! Not only is this unprecedented, it is a shameless situation that only a Machiavellian sitting President could maneuver to reality,” Ilagan expressed in dismay.

Gabriela Women’s Party says that the sinister intent of Arroyo to pack the House of the Representatives with families and allies who would pave the way to her becoming prime minister, after reviving charter change plans, must be blocked with the strongest force the people can muster.

“We can take no more after nine years of a corrupt and tyrannical rule. The people have had enough. Ensuring that Arroyo’s rule will end in June 30 this year means blocking all her efforts to invade the Lower House. The people must be able to see through these squid tactics and navigate the murky waters to prevent a dark regime from continuing,” Ilagan warned.

Gabriela Women’s Party vows that it will continue to be vigilant and to act to frustrate all of Arroyo’s attempts to stay in power beyond her term saying that the Filipino women denounce the sitting woman president who has been the cause of unprecedented misery to our people.
