SORSOGON CITY — Known human rights leader and radio anchor Teodoro “Tudoy” Escanilla was shot dead on Aug. 19 midnight, at his home in Tagdon village, Barcelona, in Sorsogon province.
Escanilla was the spokesperson of Karapatan Sorsogon, and was a leading voice against human rights violations and militarization in the communities in Bicol region. He was the anchorman of the radio program, “Pamana ng Lahi” at radio DZMS for 10 years.
Escanilla was among progressive leaders who were reportedly in a “hit list” of state forces due to his expose of human rights abuses inflicted on civilians by the state troops in the province.
