MANILA — Another Lumad was shot dead in Compostela Valley this afternoon.

Anoy Pasaporte, 28, was shot dead at 5:20 p.m. by gunmen believed to be elements of the Army’s 46th Infantry Battalion while on his way home, according to an alert from Karapatan – Southern Mindanao Region.

Pasaporte was a member of Panalipdan youth based in Mabini, Compostela Valley.

Pasaporte was the second victim killed in Compostela Valley this week. Three days ago, Jimmy Saypan was shot by suspected soldiers from the Army’s 66th Infantry Battalion in New Visayas, Montevista, Compostela Valley. Saypan died the next day.

The killings took place as hundreds of Lumad and other indigenous peoples and farmers from different regions have embarked on a national caravan here in Manila.

Karapatan has called on President Duterte to pull out military troops from communities. The group noted that there has been no let up in military offensives despite Duterte’s declaration of unilateral ceasefire in August 2016. (https://www.bulatlat.com)
