(Updated: May 11, 2023; 11:27 am) MANILA – The husband of Mary Jane Veloso testified in court today November 10 the circumstances surrounding his wife’s recruitment into an overseas job by Maria Cristina Sergio and her live-in partner, Julius Lacanilao.

Overseas Filipino worker Mary Jane has been sentenced to die in Indonesia over the issue of drugs. Last year, her execution was stayed by the Indonesian government at the eleventh hour. Her one chance now to leave the death row rests on successfully prosecuting her recruiters in the Philippines. There are allegations that the recruiters had either duped or used Mary Jane as a drug mule in the guise of sending her to jobs abroad.

After today’s hearing, the Regional Trial Court 88 in Baloc, Nueva Ecija also affirmed its earlier decision to deny the motion for reconsideration filed by Mary Jane’s recruiters. The Court ruled that it finds “no compelling reason” to reverse its earlier ruling allowing for the deposition of Mary Jane. (https://www.bulatlat.com)
