Bulatlat wins in 10th Hildegarde awards

Bulatlat wins its fourth Hildegarde.

MANILA – Bulatlat is one of the winners in the 10th Hildegarde Awards for Outstanding Women in Mass Media, organized by the Department of Mass Communication of St. Scholastica’s College.

Dee Ayroso’s “Lumad Women: ‘Our place is in the struggle’” is one of the awardees in the print and online category. This is the fourth Hildegarde award for Bulatlat.

Other reports awarded in the same category include: “The Long road to an LGBT anti-discrimination law” by Fritzie Rodriguez of Rappler.com and “They’re killing teachers and children, Mr. President” by veteran journalist Inday Varona-Espina of ABS-CBN Online.

Ayroso’s same story won the Gawad Agong award for online news in October last year.

Students and faculty of St. Scholastica’s College will stage the awarding on March 8, the International Women’s Day.

Winners from other categories are as follows:

Advertising: “Love namin kayo” for McDo, “For our no. 1 lolas” for Nido and “Love all kinds of love” for Bench.

Broadcast Journalism: Red Alert, Frontrow, Reel Time and Leading Women. Moreover, winners under radio are Magandang Gabi Dok, Radyo Veritas and Radyo Negosyo.

Development Communication: Save the Children’s Lahat Dapat, Teach build peace movement’s #whypeace and Aisa Mijeno’s S.A.L.T.

Journalist Malou Mangahas will receive this year’s lifetime achievement award. The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism will also receive an institutional award for its reporting on various social and political issues such as corruption, public accountability and environmental protection.
