Migrante International leader Sol Pillas, 58, served Filipino migrant workers all over the world “until her last breath.”

MANILA – The largest overseas Filipino workers group is mourning the passing of its secretary general Sol Pillas who passed way at 5:30 a.m. today, April 21.
In its Facebook post, Migrante International said Pillas, 58, served Filipino migrant workers all over the world “until her last breath.”
Pillas was a domestic helper for 25 years in Hongkong. She first volunteered as a counselor and case officer for Mission for Migrant Workers and eventually became a long-time officer of United Filipinos in Hongkong.
In 2014, Migrante International said Pillas returned to the country “for good.” She was then elected secretary general of the migrant rights group on December 2014.
The migrant leader was attending a congressional inquiry on Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipina on death row, when she suffered a stroke on September 2015. Her health did not improve since then.
“We will never forget your selflessness and wholeheartedness to exert effort to save my sister Mary Jane Veloso,” Maritess Veloso-Laurente, Mary Jane’s sister, said in her Facebook post.
Mary Jane, according to her sister, is praying for Pillas’ soul.
“Though she never met you in person, Mary Jane knows all the sacrifices you have made and how much you love her. Her heart is bleeding in your passing. She promised she would never give up and will continue the fight,” Laurente added.
The OFW group is currently making arrangements for her wake and tribute.
