Pamamahiya

The pre-colonial Ivatan society, defined by its fortified idjangs (mountain fortresses) and autonomous participation in the Maritime Jade Road, was a sovereign entity. To subsume their heritage under a Chinese claim based on ancient trade networks or proximity is an epistemic assault.
“Such practices amount to intimidation, discourage engagement with international bodies and prevent HRDs from accessing assistance and remedies available to them through international human rights mechanisms.”
Two days apart this week, two important commemorations took place. One evoked a resounding plea for long-delayed justice; the other, for the resumption of peace negotiations to attain just and lasting peace. In each case, concerned groups and advocates urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to act positively.
“As Church, we are challenged by our present time and context to stand for truth… The Church will not and cannot be neutral on moral and ethical issues and concerns.”
The setting of the sun signals the time to come home, a time for rest from the daily toils. But for the poor workers in highly urbanized areas rest is a luxury. The none-stop rotation of work propagated by capitalism, rest is counter-productive.
I was blessed by children today. Two children, actually. A young girl, 10-year old Sophie, and a 3-month old baby boy, Matteo. Sometimes, one can’t contain oneself, by the joy these two pure souls may offer this poor, weak soul. Life can be so burdensome.
In the early 2000s, government soldiers brutally killed a couple, Expedito and Manuela Albarillo, in a surprise attack on their home in San Teodoro, Mindoro Oriental.

It comes as no surprise that the current lockdown has become a de facto crackdown for some of those who dare speak up against the government.
As we witness the excruciatingly slow and inefficient governance of this administration, more lives are on the line – not only due to the dreaded disease but also due to hunger and desperation.
