Relatives and supporters of the Morong 43 held a protest action in front of the Department of Justice. They proceeded to the national cathedral of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) and set up a center for their solidarity fasting.

“After the recent dialogues with Malacanang officials and Aquino’s pronouncements, there has been no concrete action for the Morong 43. We reiterate our call for the withdrawal of charges against them,” Roneo Clamor, husband of Dr. Merry Mia-Clamor, said. “This is the highest form of protest among the detainees.”

Clamor said the Morong 43 is a test case for the Aquino administration with respect to human rights.

Nenita Monasterio, 62, mother of Linda Otanez, joined the fasting despite her hypertension. “This is our way to pressure the Aquino government to release the Morong 43,” she told Bulatlat.

Monasterio, an accredited barangay health worker in Antipolo, Rizal, said she visited her daughter on Dec. 2 and brought out all the remaining food inside the prison cell. “We are determined to do this,” she said.

Monasterio who attended the dialogues at Malacanang said that Aquino seems to ‘be so afraid of the military.’ “That is the reason why he could not order the release of the Morong 43,” she said. (Bulatlat.com)
