Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte announced his endorsement of Makabayan Coalition senatoriables Reps. Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza during their recent visit in the city.
“Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza are really my candidates. We share the same principles. They really are for the poor,” he said.
On March 4 at Brgy. Vicente Gym in Agdao, Duterte raised the hand of Liza Maza and expressed his support, recognizing Maza’s contribution to women’s rights movement.
In a separate gathering on March 5, Duterte also endorsed Ocampo, citing the role of the progressive block in bringing the issues and sentiments of the people in and out of the mainstream politics.
Both Maza and Ocampo welcomed the endorsement and expressed their appreciation to Duterte.
“I thanked him for believing in my ability to continue the fight for women’s rights and equality in the senate. I will continue to carry the interest of the Davaoeneos to encourage local legislation on women’s rights and welfare, as exemplified by the administration of Mayor Duterte,” Maza said.
“I heartily thank Mayor Duterte for his personal commitment to me and to Rep. Liza Maza to support our senatorial candidacies under the MAKABAYAN. We have no doubt that such endorsement and our establish following will carry us to victory in Davao City against the black propaganda and dirty tricks of sinister forces serving the GMA government and their vested interests,” Ocampo added.
