They were sexually harassed; they had no union; their pay never went above the minimum wage; and their 13th month pay was cut in half. When they formed a union, the management tried to undermine it. But everything turned out for the better when the workers, who are predominantly women, collectively staged protest actions from noise barrage, to work slowdown and finally a strike.

Menyer Ligmon’s family budget of $8 a day is spent for one and a half kilos of rice, $0.46 for the snack of each of her six children, who are attending school, $0.46 for one fourth kilo of sugar, $0.46 for kerosene gas for her lamp for one week .. and the rest for noodles and vegetables, cooking oil, salt and the cheapest milk for her two-year old child.

The children of political activists and human rights workers who fallen victim to extrajudicial killings are orphaned, their young lives marred and damaged by the experience of losing their parents to state violence. As for the child victims of extrajudicial killings themselves, their brutal killing at the hands of the military prove the extent of the AFP’s impunity—not even the most innocent are spared.
The lolas (grandmothers) of Lila Filipina, an organization of former “comfort women,” stormed the Japanese Embassy in Manila on Wednesday to demand justice from the government of Japan for the crimes they committed during World War II. The lolas proceeded to Don Chino Bridge near Malacañang gate and brought with them a letter addressed to President Benigno S.
